Hanalei Bay Resort Summary |
Local Area
Hanalei Bay is located on the north shore of Kauai, in Princeville, Hawaii. White sand beaches surrounded by breathtaking views of waterfalls, valleys and lush tropical landscape, make this private half-moon bay a favorite of locals, visitors and world champion surfers. The Hanalei Pier is a great spot for fishing, swimming and soaking up local music and culture, and was made famous when it was included in the classic film, "South Pacific", released in 1960. The film's storyline also featured the beautiful and looming Makana Mountain as a forbidden island, and the mountain has since been known as "Bali Hai". It is part of a National Tropical Botanic Garden and was once a place for the ancient fire throwing ceremony known as "ohai". The bay is the largest on Kauai and it's western curve offers one of the north shore's calmer areas for swimmers.
