This all-volunteer nonprofit has been providing a financial and morale safety net for low income Marine and Navy families in north Camp Pendleton for almost 10 years. They have taken to heart the perennial plea of married Marines being deployed– “Take care of my family” and do so in the following ways: 1) responding to family emergencies with a 24-7 daily helpline and providing thousands of dollars annually in food, clothing, diapers, gas, car repair and other unexpected needs. 2) supplying a morale boost with monthly events such as baby showers for expecting moms, tea socials for wives, pool parties for kids, and whatever can be done to lift their spirits. 3) giving seasonal events including a Thanksgiving
turkey giveaway to as many as 1,000 families, Christmas “Thank a Family” gift shopping support, and Easter baskets. 4) each Spring resupplying the cash strapped on-base K-8 school with basic school supplies for 32 classrooms, as well as scientific equipment and playground equipment. More than 10% of these families are below the U.S. poverty level and even a former Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps, General John K Davis, referred to this charity as a “noble cause.”
