Volcano Art Center - Big Island, Hawaii
The Volcano Art Center's mission is to promote, develop, and perpetuate the artistic and cultural heritage of Hawai'i's people and environment through activities in the visual, literary, and performing arts.VAC is centered at Kilauea, home to Pele, the fiery Hawaiian goddess of the volcano. This dynamic, powerful environment, where new land is being formed every day, has inspired the Hawaiian people and their crafts, songs, dances, and legends for centuries. Today, this area continues to draw artists, performers, writers, scientists, and educators.
Haleakala National Park
Part of Haleakala National Park, the crater was once an active volcano that helped create the island. Streaks of red, yellow, gray and black trace the courses of recent and ancient lave, ash, and cinder flows. The volcanic rocks slowly break down as natural forces reduce them to minute particles which are swept away by wind, heavy rain, and intermittent streams.
Blue Water Rafting
Your journey begins within the safe confines of the Kihei Maui Boat Ramp which enjoys the protection of the 10,000 foot volcano, Mt. Haleakala. Early morning departures are for the Kanaio Coast, where side vents erupted from the volcano as recently as 1790. Late morning departures are for Molokini, a crescent shaped volcanic tuff cone about 5 miles away from Maui, rated as one one the top ten dive and snorkel locations in the world located here in the hawaiian islands.
Ohe'o Gulch - "Seven Sacred Pools"
Ohe’o Gulch (also known as the Seven Sacred Pools) is part of the Haleakala National Park, and provides some fabulous picture taking opportunities. You can even swim in some of the pools (though you are not advised to do so unless you’re sure it’s safe). Water from the Pipiwai streams cascades down waterfalls through this series of pools (there are actually more than 7), ending up in the ocean.
