Area Attractions
The Pagosa Springs Golf Club
The Pagosa Springs Golf Club is a spectacular course with 27 championship holes. Ponderosa pines line the fairway making the course both beautiful and challenging. You are surrounded with magnificent views of the San Juan Mountains.
Fred Harman Art Museum
Original paintings, drawings and western memorabilia from the eventful life of famed cartoonist Fred Harman are displayed in 3 galleries. For more than 25 years, a handsome broad-shouldered cowboy named Red Ryder, on his faithful horse Thunder, galloped across the horizon of America's collective imagination. From the first appearance in the "Chicago Sun" on Sunday, November 6, 1938, Red Ryder and Little Beaver were an immediate hit.
Rocky Mountain Balloon Adventures
Rocky Mountain Balloon Adventures provides balloon flights over Pagosa Springs and the beautiful San Juan Valley in southwestern Colorado year-round. Come and fly with us. Half-hour and Full-hour adventures are available. Bookings are completed through the Fairfield Pagosa Activities Center. Please call (970) 731-8060 for more information or e-mail us at info@pagosaviews.com. For once, a fantasy can become a reality! You have a unique opportunity to "break the earthly bonds of gravity," and if you've been dreaming about flying--try this!
Chimney Rock Archeaological Area
Chimney Rock is a San Juan National Forest Archaeological Area located in Colorado between Durango and Pagosa Springs and managed for archaeological protection, public interpretation, and education. Its care, protection, and preservation are shared by the Pagosa Ranger District, USDA Forest Service and the public, who contribute through tour fees, donations, and purchase of items from the Chimney Rock Visitor's Center.
The Pioneer Museum
The Pioneer Museum is located at the corner of 1st and Pagosa Streets, on the east side of Pagosa Springs near the bridge. The displays depict life in the area from the 1890s to the early 1900s. Step back in time and visit a dentist's office, a barber shop, a general store and a country schoolroom. Other displays include a blacksmith shop, a typical early 1900 kitchen and logging and ranching equipment. Visit us at our web site and enjoy the slide show that provides a look at those "Pioneer" days.
Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad
Durango was founded by the Denver & Rio Grande Railway in 1879. The railroad arrived in Durango on August 5, 1881 and construction on the line to Silverton began in the fall of the same year. By July of 1882 (amazingly, only 9 months after construction began) the tracks to Silverton were completed, and the train began hauling both freight and passengers. The line was constructed to haul silver & gold ore from the San Juan Mountains, but passengers soon realized it was the view that was truly precious.
