Park
City became a thriving boomtown in 1884, when soldiers stationed
near Salt Lake City discovered silver in the hills in 1868.
But the best was yet to come: ski jumpers from around the
world started competing at Ecker Hill in 1930, and in 1946,
the town's first ski area, Snow Park, opened.
Skiing caught on and three more ski areas opened to entertain
local enthusiasts. Treasure Mountain, now Park City Mountain,
opened in 1963. The Canyons, formerly Park West and Wolf
Mountain, opened in 1968, and in 1981, Deer Valley became
Utah's largest snow park.
Park
City is most famous for its 8,550 acres of skiing, but when
the snow melts, the mountains offer a whole new range of
exciting activities. Whether it's hiking in the Wasatch
mountains, horseback riding, golfing, shopping, attending
an outdoor concert, or just relaxing by the pool, summers
in Park City offer something for everyone.
