Visitors Information in Avalon on Catalina Island

Exclusive Newport Beach, artsy Laguna, and the surf town of Huntington Beach are the stars, but lesser-known gems on the glistening coast—such as Corona del Mar and Dana Point—are also worth visiting. Offshore, meanwhile, lies gorgeous Catalina Island, a terrific spot for diving, snorkeling, and hiking. And despite a building boom that began in the 1980s, the region is still a place to find wilderness preserves, canyon trails, greenbelt bike paths, and stunning coastline.

You can also get an evocative dose of California history by visiting the 18th-century Mission San Juan Capistrano or enjoying state-of-the-art acoustics at one of America's premier performing arts centers (which, in quintessential OC form, is located next to the massive South Coast Plaza shopping center). Several major bands got started here, including ska-infected No Doubt, metal group Korn, and the punk band Social Distortion. And while local style was long focused on hometown surf-gear companies like Quiksilver and Billabong, the current obsession with chic designers means that Orange County now gets profiled in Vogue. Some of Orange County's towns are now high profile, thanks to TV shows like The O.C., The Hills, Laguna Beach, and The Real Housewives of Orange County. But life here is much more diverse and sophisticated than the McMansion world depicted on TV. Orange County is now far more multicultural than its reputation. A strong Mexican influence contributes to the cuisine and architecture; the largest Vietnamese community outside Asia is that of Westminster's Little Saigon. Though the region has long been a one of California's conservative bastions, it's also becoming more politically diverse. And please don't tell the 3 million locals that they live in a suburb of Los Angeles. Orange County is different, with its own economy, culture, and lifestyle. It's more relaxed, more family oriented, and friendlier.

Lunch begins at 10 am on Saturday and Sunday. This new waterfront restaurant features American regional dishes with a seasonal approach, paired with a world class selection of wines, micro-brew beers and cocktails in a casual and fun "al fresco" atmosphere overlooking Avalon Bay. The Avalon Grille boasts a fabulous new menu including grilled wild salmon in a red Thai curry sauce with cucumber & mint and BBQ beef brisket with cheddar mac n' cheese. No reservations necessary. Stop by for Happy Hour Monday through Thursday from 2 pm to 6 pm where you receive one free cocktail snack with purchase of alcoholic beverage.
" As the name implies, the Catalina Visitors Country Club is open to the public, but this wasn't always so. The facility was originally built for William Wrigley’s baseball team, the Chicago Cubs. Now, after a lavish renovation, the club’s eclectic mix of Spanish Colonial design and sports memorabilia exists in elegant ambiance. Poised on a knoll overlooking romantic Avalon, the landmark Catalina Visitors Country Club is a striking example of Early California Revival architecture, with distressed cream-colored walls, deep green trim, and a Spanish-tile roof. Brick steps take you up to a broad porch with a spectacular view of Avalon below and the vast Pacific Ocean beyond .As you continue up the stairs through an arched portico, you are greeted by a colorful example of early Catalina's acclaimed tile industry: the Country Club's original drinking fountain. To the right is a sunny brick patio perfect for weddings with a view. Exchange your vows with the ocean as a backdrop, and then enjoy your reception in the adjacent conference room, a cozy arrangement that works nicely for intimate gatherings. Through the portico is the Country Club's main courtyard, a lovely spot for both weddings and receptions. Follow the exchange of vows with a champagne toast in the middle of the Courtyard, near an elaborate fountain of island-blue tile Lush foliage, the lilting melody of songbirds and refreshing island breezes stir the senses. It is easy to see why outdoor receptions are so popular here. Guests lounge in wrought-iron chairs beneath market umbrellas, rousing themselves after dinner to dance under the stars. Equally memorable affairs are held in the chic, Mission-style Dining Room, where arched windows open to the hills and ocean-side verandahs. Wrought-iron chandeliers from South America hang from the wood-beamed ceiling. Like the other areas of the Club, the Dining Room is designed with taste and attention to detail, from the original Catalina pottery gracing the walls, to the rich mahogany doors and trim, to the plush upholstered chairs and the grand fireplace. Today, nearly a century after it opened, the Catalina Visitors Country Club still attracts visitors from around the world. You, too, will fall under the island's spell. So don't forget to toss a lucky penny into the fountain before you leave . . . and make a wish to return to paradise very soon."
"The Landing is located in the historic El Encanto Marketplace. Constructed in 1931, the El Encanto (the enchanted), originated as a replica of a colonial Mexican pueblo. The Landing occupies a small hillside with spectacular views of Avalon Harbor from the outside terraces, and a fabulous central courtyard complete with a fountain and fringed with palm trees. Our menus are filled with a variety of specialties that The Landing has perfected. From fresh seafood, gourmet pizzas, pastas, to authentic Mexican food, as well as some of the best appetizers on the Island. We also have a spectacular selection of microbrew beers, and of course, a full bar just in case you don't see a microbrew that you must try. Whether you are interested in having a wedding ceremony in our courtyard, or a reception, or a company meeting, or just a great get-together with friends and family, The Landing has it all. And we will do our best to make your time with us delicious, enjoyable, and fun. Thanks for your interest in The Landing Bar and Grill, and we look forward to seeing you soon. "
